Create a character
Write a first scene that gives the player room to respond.
Start with a draft
In the studio, create a character draft and write its introduction, character settings, and starting scene; save the draft before publishing a version.
Leave the player in control
Describe what the character does and what happens nearby, but leave the player’s words, movements, feelings, and consent for the player to choose.
End with something to respond to
End the opening with a character’s action, a small change, or an invitation the player can respond to, without deciding the response for them.
An opening to try
For example: “A bell rings beneath the empty station. The keeper sets a sealed envelope on the counter. ‘This arrived without a name. Would you like to look?’” The player can accept, refuse, or ask a question.
Changes and existing chats
Publish a new version to use your changes in new chats; existing chats stay attached to the version they started with.
